Thursday, August 13, 2026

(July 31, 2026) Sheriff Carter Weaver announces the arrest of Angela T. Kohl, 55, of Georgetown on charges of Breach of Trust with Fraudulent Intent (Over $10,000) and Computer Crime Act (Over $10,000) 1st Degree. Kohl is accused of stealing $118,000 from the accounts of Kids’ Chance of South Carolina over a period of 18 months. Kids’ Chance provides college and vocational school scholarships to children whose parents were killed or seriously injured in a work-related accident. It is a 501(c)3 nonprofit funded by private donations.
Kohl worked from home as a bookkeeper, the charity’s only paid staff member. When the board of Kids’ Chance discovered the missing funds and questioned Kohl, she claimed to know nothing. She resigned due to undisclosed health reasons a few weeks later.
Sheriff’s investigators audited the charity’s bank statements and found dozens of transactions by Kohl into her personal PayPal account. Kohl was booked into the Georgetown County Detention Center this afternoon awaiting a bond hearing.
