Sheriff Carter Weaver has announced the arrest of a Pawleys Island woman after she attempted to enter Waccamaw High School with a handgun in a fanny pack.

Tanesha Anissa Addison Bennett, 39, was taken into custody by a Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officer after setting off a security alarm. She was stopped in a secure vestibule by the school safety monitor prior to gaining access to the building, and a Glock handgun was seized. She told deputies she forgot the handgun was in her pack. She has been charged with Possession of a Weapon on School Property.

The school operated under normal conditions.

Sheriff Weaver said: “This is a clear example of the process working as it should. The security system, school staff and our deputies did their part to ensure a safe environment.”
