PAWLEYS ISLAND SHOOTING SUSPECT IN CUSTODY

July 14, 2025: Sheriff Carter Weaver has announced the arrest of a suspect in a shooting incident that took place on McNeal Lane, Pawleys Island, this evening.
Eric M. Smith, 44, of the Pawleys Island area was charged with Breach of Peace (aggravated), Failure to Stop for Blue Light and Siren, Driving Under Suspension and Open Container after he reportedly fired a handgun into the air and into the ground during an argument with an unnamed individual.
As Smith was leaving the scene, deputies from Georgetown County Sheriff's Office attempted to stop his vehicle. He sped away but eventually stopped at a residence on Parkersville Road and was taken into custody.
He is being held at Georgetown County Detention Center.
